 KBC Rules

The Kelowna Badminton Club (KBC) runs on an honour system; members are expected to be friendly and courteous to other players (members or guests). Members are expected to adhere to the following rules, and to ensure that guests and fellow members adhere to the following rules.

1. COURT SHOES MUST be worn in court area. This refers to the entire court area, not just the courts. It is essential to CARRY INDOOR COURT SHOES into the club so that we do not track in sand and dirt from outside, which will damage the wooden floors and cause injury if a member were to slip on court. There are donated court shoes in both locker rooms for people to borrow if needed. BARE FEET ARE NOT ALLOWED ON COURT

2. COURT ETIQUETTE and acceptable attire. Members and guests are expected to wear proper badminton attire. BALL CAPS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON COURT (the club has head bands for sale). Please do not walk behind the courts when play is happening wait for the rally to end. Ensure children are supervised at all times.

3. ENTRY CARDS are not to be loaned out to anyone. This includes family members. Cards are for the exclusive use of the member. Members will be warned once, and risk having their entry card revoked for a second infraction.

4. GUEST FEES. Members are responsible to ensure that their guests have signed into the guest book and paid the drop-in fee into the box PRIOR TO PLAY. This is to ensure that payment has been made and to reduce conflict on whether fees have been paid. If a guest is not signed in, they will not be covered by our insurance. *If a guest is not accompanied by a member and you allow them in, you become responsible for their visit. You must sign the guest in to the guest book and ensure that they pay the guest fee prior to play. They must leave when you leave – unless another member is willing to take responsibility for them at that time. There must be a member on site at all times when non-members are playing.

5. PROTECTIVE EYE-WEAR must be worn by anyone UNDER THE AGE OF 18. This is mandatory for our insurance and all members are expected to enforce this rule. If you bring in a junior to play, you are responsible to ensure they are wearing protective eyewear. There are glasses available for purchase from an executive member. These are sold to members below cost. We encourage all members regardless of age to wear protective eye wear.

6. VACATE COURTS when others are waiting. During busy times, please vacate the court after your game so the next group can play. During club play times members should make every effort to ensure nobody sits for too long. If people are waiting at the side of the courts, singles play is not permitted. Please mix with sitting players. Playing times are noted on the bulletin board in the lobby and on our website.

7. Juniors are not permitted to play during designated Adult time.

FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF MEMBER PRIVILEGES.
